The Journey Begins

In May 2025, I boarded a flight to New York on my way to Nashville for a series of sales meetings and industry events. What was supposed to be a routine business trip quickly turned into an adventure before I had even reached my final destination.
Missing My Connection in New York
Around that time, tensions between India and Pakistan had significantly impacted flight routes, forcing airlines to reroute services through alternative paths. My Air India flight, which was originally scheduled to arrive in New York around 6:00 AM, was delayed and eventually landed close to 11:00 AM.

As every frequent business traveler fears, my connecting flight to Nashville had already departed.
What followed was an experience many international travelers know all too well. I found myself navigating the seemingly endless immigration queues at JFK Airport, followed by another marathon through security and terminal transfers. It took nearly three hours just to move from the international terminal to the domestic departure area. By the end of it, I felt as if I had already completed a full day’s work before even reaching Nashville.
Fortunately, I managed to secure another flight and arrived in Nashville just in time for dinner.
First Impressions of Nashville

What initially felt like a frustrating start turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of spending my first evening alone, I arrived just as several colleagues had gathered, and what was meant to be a quiet night quickly turned into an enjoyable evening of conversations, food, and laughter.
Before the city woke up, I walked along the riverfront. Broadway may be Nashville’s most famous attraction, but the quiet morning views gave me a different perspective of the city.
Our primary purpose in Nashville was business. We spent our days attending exhibitions, customer meetings, and sales discussions. However, what surprised me most was how vibrant the city became once the workday ended.
Nashville proudly calls itself the Music City, and after spending a few evenings there, it became easy to understand why.
Broadway After Dark
Once the meetings wrapped up around 6 PM, the city transformed. Broadway, Nashville’s famous entertainment district, came alive with neon lights, live bands, and an energy that seemed impossible to ignore. Every bar had musicians performing live, and every doorway seemed to lead to another unforgettable evening.
What impressed me most was how naturally music became part of everyday life. You didn’t need to buy a concert ticket or plan your evening in advance. Simply walking down Broadway was enough to experience some of the best live performances in the city.
One thing that surprised me was that every bar seemed to have its own live band. Instead of one central concert venue, the entire street felt like a giant music festival. Walking a few hundred meters could take you from country music to rock, blues, and cover bands.

Nashville’s Food Scene
The food scene was equally memorable. From authentic Mexican tacos to perfectly cooked steaks, Nashville offered a surprising mix of flavors. One evening we enjoyed dinner overlooking the Cumberland River, while on another we explored local restaurants around downtown, each with its own character and atmosphere.
Coming from India, portion sizes immediately stood out. Whether it was breakfast burritos, tacos, or steaks, everything seemed larger than expected. After long days of meetings, those meals became an experience of their own.

Of course, there are plenty of articles online describing Nashville’s attractions, hotels, and tourist spots. You can easily find those with a quick search. What stayed with me, however, was not a specific landmark but the city’s personality — a place where business travelers can finish a day of meetings and unexpectedly find themselves surrounded by music, great food, and genuine Southern hospitality.

An Unexpected Business Class Upgrade
The final surprise came on the journey home.
After several busy days of meetings, travel, and exhibitions, I discovered that I had enough Maharaja Club points to upgrade my Air India return flight to Business Class. It was a small decision that made a huge difference.

After long airport queues, delayed flights, and packed schedules, the ability to stretch out, enjoy a proper meal, and get some rest before arriving home felt like a luxury I genuinely appreciated. The upgrade transformed what could have been an exhausting journey into a comfortable and relaxing experience.
Final Thoughts
Looking back, Nashville reminded me of something I often forget during business travel.
Sometimes the most memorable moments are not found in meeting rooms, exhibition halls, or carefully planned itineraries.

Sometimes they are found in unexpected delays, spontaneous dinners, live music drifting through city streets, and the simple joy of discovering a place you never expected to love.
Nashville was never a destination I had planned to explore. I arrived for meetings and exhibitions, but I left remembering the music, the food, the people, and the unexpected moments between business appointments. Those are often the memories that stay with us the longest.
What started as a business trip ended as a night of music in Nashville — and a city I look forward to visiting again.
